The Bryan Moore Student Health and Fitness Act of Maryland

The Bryan Moore Student Health and Fitness Act of Maryland (House Bill 503/ Senate Bill 955) is making its way through the Maryland General Assembly right now. The goal of this legislation is to assure that all children in grades K- 5 participate in a daily program of physical activity totaling 150 minutes per week to include a combination of Physical Education (90 minutes) and physical activity (60 minutes.) Children who participate in daily physical activity are more likely to maintain a healthy weight and reduce their risk of obesity-related chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. And children who develop the habit of being physically active when they are young are more likely to maintain it throughout their adult lives.

This video explains why this legislation is named after 14 year-old Bryan Moore and how physical activity became such a critical part of his life.

You’ll meet Bryan, his mother Virginia Freeman and diabetes educator Frances Eppig. You’ll learn how important it is to pass the Bryan Moore Student Health and Fitness Act of Maryland. And you’ll learn what you can do to let your state delegates and senators know that you want them to vote for it.

    Amen to everything …
Amen to everything said in this vid. The statistics are right-on target…The future is very bleak for children; their health is at great risk, and THE BIGGEST TRAGEDY IS THAT IS COULD BE EASY TO PREVENT. That’s what this Act is all about…it’s long overdue.
