I started off my pregnancy 10-15lbs overweight so my doc recommended a moderate exercise program. It’s about an hour a day, 3-5 times a week, just watching tv and doing the elliptical. It’s really helped keep my weight gain normal (well, that and cutting out my nightly glass of white wine)!
Early in my pregnancy everything was fine, but lately however I’ve been getting a bit of a stink-eye from some other women at the gym. Today I got off the machine after an hour’s workout, and this older woman looked at my workout summary and said, bold as brass, "THAT’S not good for the baby you know." I’d gone for one hour and burned about 700 calories. I don’t think that’s so crazy and my heart rate was always under my 150bpm max. I replied, "thanks for the advice," and left.
Still, that irritated me. Not that I plan on paying any heed to random ladies at the gym over the advice of my doctor, but what’s with the flak? I am working out properly, not insanely, and although my baby bump is now pretty noticeable I do see other pregnant ladies there working out, just like me. I would have thought people would applaud pregnant women for keeping fit!
At least your experience at the gym was better than mine lol. I stopped working out at the gym and started working out at home because a lot of strange looking men are into pregnant women! And they kept watching me on the machines and it felt like me and my baby were being molested with their eyes, ugh!!!
But I have had people tell me to not workout, I let them know that all the current books and my doctor said it was more than ok for me to do so and they can all relax lol

Good for you! I’ve found that MOST of the flak you get from other people while pregnant is due to jealousy. Just ignore them. Wish I had the motivation to hit the gym…

Get used to it, while pregnant there are so many women out there who think they know better than you and they will saying something. When I was 7 months along I was given a weekend pass to go camping (I had gestational hypertension and was on bed and or house rest for months) from my doctor as long as we were not too far from the city and I took my blood pressure machine with me and I did not walk too much, etc…He wanted me to finally get out and enjoy the summer and he felt it would lift my spirits (it was a long, hard pregnancy but I would not change it because I have a beautiful little girl). Anyways, it was warm so we decided to drive to the lake (we could have walked but decided it was better to drive for me) so that I could put my feet/legs in the water and sit in the shade. This woman who was walking her dog told me that I was doing a horrible thing for my baby by one camping and two sitting in the lake because fresh water is not safe for pregnancy. I told her thank you, but I knew what I was doing. My face was not even close to the water so I knew it was safe. Also, many pregnant women go camping, there were 3 other pregnant women at the site!
You know your body best and you are following the directions of your doctor so keep on working out! I think it’s great, it will make labor a lot easier for you. Don’t let others get you down!

Wow. I don’t mean to sound harsh or offend any of the older ladies out there, but, some tend to be miserable and decide to take it out on other people. She seen you working out with a blessing on the way and just happened to think she knew best.
My advice? Well, just don’t listen to them. You’re doing a wonderful thing for you and your baby by working out. It’s your body and if you think you can handle it then you can. Just ignore them and look forward to your baby
Try taking a i-pod or something too. I don’t like chatting with people i don’t know , specially while being stinky haha, so i keep that on while working out and just go into my own little world.
You have too much stuff to think about, having a baby on the way, to dwell on someone’s rude words. People shouldn’t say things if they don’t have anything nice to say in the first place.
Grr, i think i was venting haha. Sorry, nehow, good luck with the baby! Keep up with what you think is best for yourself.
