a 40yr old man………..?

a 40 yr old man is 5'8 and 260lbs. who resting heart rate is 85bpm, smokes about a pack a day and drinks 6-8 cups of coffee a day, cholesterol is 190mg/dL and who blood pressure is 135/85, who works 50-60 hours a week. can he start an exercise program without any problems?

He absolutely needs a stress test before starting an exercise program. He has too many risk factors to just jump in. We all hate to hear "now that you're 40", but now that he's 40…… Seriously, he smokes, he's overweight, he drinks too much coffee, his resting bp is borderline-he has to have a stress test.

If we, as women, are so happy with our "curves"….?

why are diet and exercise programs so popular?

Simple enough. Because most women AREN'T happy with their looks … through little fault of their own.

Society gives us the perfect woman image. You see her on television, movies, runways and magazines. She's so thin she could just about be transparent, has the perfect waistline, the perfect breasts, the perfect skin and is basically perfection personified.

Then we grow up being compared to her.

The neverending goal for every young girl is to be "pretty". Unfortunately, when pretty is defined as the perfection they see on movie screens and magazines, they'll do just about anything to reach that goal. Unfortunately, this is also why anorexia and bulemia became so common place, and seems to be more so as time progresses.

So, tanning salons make a fortune, diet programs are attempted from every angle, and every other attempt is made to reach that idea of what beautiful is. And it becomes ingrained …. it's much harder to discard an ideal than it is to accept it.

I've raised my daughters to ensure that they don't see that picture of perfection as the 5'9 poker thin model …. to believe that dieting is a poor substitute for a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise, to believe you don't have to be 105 pounds to be beautiful. The only way to have women who are satisfied and happy with themselves is to raise daughters who are happy with themselves.

Can more people answer this question, I only had one reply?

Would someone who is ednos/anorexic be okay as or make a decent physical trainer?

I am ednos on the anorexic side and I exercise constantly and keep my health up by eating nutritious foods when I do eat and by taking vitamin suppliments, without them I would probably fall deep into anorexia. Anyway, I keep entertaining the idea of going through a physical trainer program and becoming a physical trainer, but I am a guy and don't have the muscle mass and bulk that you would expect a male physical trainer to have and to be honest I don't want to bulk up or put on muscle mass, but enjoy weightless exercise, cardio, and water aerobics. I am not shy about my condition, and could talk about it with and in front of others, if others also tend to be like me and need someone they can relate with for fitness. I just don't know if being slender and ednos/anorexic would prevent me from or make it hard to be a physical trainer (I mean would you want or use a physical trainer like that).

I'd totally take fitness lessons from somebody who looks thin, if that's what you mean. There is a whole bunch of people who wants huge muscles, but then there is another bunch of people who wants to get thin. Since you realize there is a difference between wanting to be thin and driving oneselves into an eating disorder you can actaully help a whole buch of people to avoid an eating disorder. But consider this: your role as a trainer is not only show how to use machines, but also to educate people on what is healthy. You can't really teach them what you're doing now (i.e. eating very little and compensating with vitamins) it is just not healthy as you probably realize. Maybe as you take the trainer's courses you yourself will change your eating habits. Otherwise it will be hart to tell people "I recommend you eat this and that, but I myself will stick to water and viatmins."
